Final scholarships for scientifically outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral students
Final scholarships for scientifically outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral students of the HU in financial need, insofar as the completion of their qualifications cannot be achieved within the designated time for family reasons and, in the case of HU employees, there is no longer any possibility of employment under the WissZeitVG, even taking into account the family circumstances.
This funding covers a maximum period of six months plus a maximum of three months until the defense. The amount of the scholarship is € 1,365 (doctoral candidates) or € 1,500 (postdoctoral candidates) per month. The monthly family allowance is €400 for the first child and €100 for each additional child.
Eligible to apply:
Doctoral and post-doctoral students of the HU with and without previous employment at the HU. Excluded are applicants who have already received or are receiving a final grant for their doctorate or habilitation from another position within or outside the HU beyond the regular maximum funding period. In addition, the fellowship cannot be associated with an employment position within or outside HU.
Applications must include:
- Completed application form (please attach as cover sheet to the application)
- Project description (max. 2 A4 pages)
- Detailed, realistic time schedule
- Curriculum vitae, incl. list of publications
- Last university degree certificate
- Professional statement that the dissertation or post-doctoral thesis is likely to be excellent and that it can be finally submitted as a qualification thesis in six months at the latest. In the case of doctoral candidates, the statement should come from the supervisor; in the case of post-doctoral candidates, it should come from the faculty's professors. Complete applications should be sent by e-mail (please include all documents in one pdf file) to familienfonds@hu-berlin.de with the subject "Application for the Family Fund" by October 23, 2023 (cut-off deadline).
